Code of Conduct

The Worldwide Internship Network (WIN) is built on trust, collaboration, and a shared commitment to responsible international engagement. This Code of Conduct sets out the expectations for all members of the WIN community, including educational institutions, host organisations, delivery partners, and individual participants.

It outlines the values and behaviours we expect from everyone involved in our programmes, helping to ensure that every internship experience is safe, inclusive, and professionally rewarding.

Core Principles

WIN Principles

Respect for Human Rights

WIN members must demonstrate a clear commitment to upholding internationally recognised human rights. No participant, intern, or partner should be subject to discrimination, coercion, exploitation, or abuse. We expect our network to support environments where all individuals are treated with dignity and fairness.

Prevention of Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking

WIN has a zero-tolerance policy regarding modern slavery, forced labour, or human trafficking. All organisations involved in our programmes must take proactive steps to prevent any form of exploitation. This includes due diligence within their own operations and in their supply chains.

Anti-Bribery and Corruption

Bribery, corruption, or improper payments are strictly prohibited. All decisions must be made transparently and in the best interests of participants and stakeholders. Any attempt to influence decisions or secure placements through gifts, favours, or financial incentives will be grounds for removal from the network.

Equal Opportunities and Non-Discrimination

We are committed to providing equal access to internships and professional development, regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, disability, sexual orientation, or socio-economic background. All partners must adopt inclusive practices in recruitment, supervision, and support of interns.

Health, Safety, and Wellbeing

All organisations working with WIN must ensure a safe and supportive environment for interns and staff. This includes physical safety, digital security, and mental wellbeing. Any concerns raised by participants must be taken seriously and addressed promptly.

Data Protection and Privacy

All personal and professional information must be handled in line with relevant data protection laws and best practices. Interns have the right to privacy, and their data must not be shared, stored, or used without clear consent. Partners must take appropriate steps to ensure digital security and confidentiality.

Safeguarding and Duty of Care

WIN expects all partners to actively promote the welfare of interns, especially those who are younger or vulnerable. This includes establishing clear safeguarding procedures, offering appropriate support, and taking action if concerns are raised. Every participant should feel safe, heard, and valued throughout their placement.

Environmental Responsibility

We encourage all members of the WIN network to operate in a way that minimises environmental impact. This includes reducing unnecessary travel, conserving energy, and supporting sustainable working practices where possible.

Freedom of Expression and Cultural Sensitivity

WIN promotes respectful communication and cultural awareness. All members are expected to support an environment where differences of opinion can be expressed without fear, while remaining mindful of cultural norms and promoting inclusivity.

Conflict of Interest

Any actual or potential conflict of interest must be declared. All decisions must be made in the best interests of the intern and the integrity of the programme. Personal relationships, financial incentives, or competing responsibilities must not influence selection, supervision, or assessment processes.

Use of AI and Digital Tools Responsibly

We encourage innovation but expect all participants to use artificial intelligence and digital tools ethically. This includes respecting academic integrity, protecting personal information, and avoiding misuse of technology for tasks such as plagiarism or unapproved automation.

Professional Standards and Accountability

All members are expected to always act professionally and ethically. This includes: Communicating respectfully, Protecting confidential information, Delivering on agreed commitments, Providing accurate and timely information. Misconduct or breaches of this code may result in investigation and removal from the WIN network.

Reporting Concerns

Any breaches of this Code of Conduct, or concerns about unethical behaviour, should be reported confidentially to WIN. All reports will be investigated fairly, and there will be no retaliation against those who raise concerns in good faith.

Our Commitment

By participating in WIN programmes, all members agree to uphold the principles outlined in this Code of Conduct. This helps ensure that every internship is a safe, inclusive, and meaningful experience for all involved.
